Seedling racks – Part 3

Just a quick update about the seedling racks.  The fluorescent tubes were on sale at the TSC Store in Arnprior last weekend.  Here is how it looks now with all the lamps turned on:

Peep! Peep! Peep!

Moms and dads, start planning the first farm visit of the year. Yes, that’s right – we’ve ordered our first batch of chicks, and they’ll arrive April 6th!

We’ll need a couple of days to let the little peepers get settled in, and then we’d love for some of our favourite little boys and girls to come out to Our Farm to see the tiny yellow puff balls.

Plus, weather-permitting, we’ll probably be planting some early crops in the garden that weekend too. Anyone care to get their hands dirty putting some beet, spinach and swiss chard seed into the ground?

Progress

For all of you out there who are wondering, after a cold day like yesterday, “Will Spring ever come?” I’ve got a quick little update that might make you a little more optimistic: We’ve got all our seed in, and we’ve ordered our potatoes! We don’t even need to worry about yummy garlic scapes (June!) or the garlic itself (July!) because I planted it last October.

The teeny tiny little seeders and the soil thermometer arrived, too, so as soon as our heating mats arrive (they’re on back order, sadly), we’ll be getting started. The seedling room’s all organized, with a nice workspace all set up by a sunny window.

Baby steps, all, but we’re getting there!
